12 People at the Art Museum (and Boathouse Row…)

Cindy Jay, a New York City native, was visiting Philadelphia for the weekend from Friday, January 30 to February 1. Her favorite thing about Philadelphia is that "it is a more concise city than New York...it's neat to be around." On the other hand, Jay stated that "there is not as much at your fingertips as New York." A self described city person, Jay also enjoys "the outdoors of Philadelphia especially the area around the Art Museum."

Lindsey Myers is originally from Green Bay, Wisc., but currently is in her second year in Philadelphia studying at the University of Pennsylvania. "My favorite thing about Philadelphia is the nightlife," she stated, while adding their her least favorite thing "was the cold and winter, because it doesn't snow here like it does back home."

Chris Logue has lived in Philadelphia his entire life and is now studying at Drexel University. His favorite part of Philly is that "you get to see the most random things at times...something is always happening." However, he dislikes SEPTA. "It never seems like they are on time...it never works."

Shana Brown, originally from Toronto is currently in her third year at the University of Pennsylvania. "I like the Art Museum...it's beautiful," Brown proclaimed when she was asked her favorite thing about Philadelphia. However her least favorite thing is the weather. "It's ok, I just wish it was like is back home."

Raquel Lammoglia has lived in Philadelphia for 3 years after moving from Mexico City. "I love looking at the lights at night, they are so pretty," she added when asked when her favorite part of Philadelphia was. On the other hand, her least favorite part about Philly is "It makes me sad to see all the homeless people asking for money."

Jocelyn Garrido was visiting Philadelphia for the weekend on February 1. She has lived in New York City for 3 months after moving from Mexico City. "I love City Hall and the view from the Art Museum," she said. However when asked what her least favorite thing about the city was, she paused for 10 seconds and said, "Really, I don't know."

Belda Chan, who is originally from Winchester, Mass. moved to Philadelphia in Sept 2007 to start a job. Her favorite thing about the city is "being close to everything: family, friends, shopping and food." However she dislikes how dirty Philadelphia is. "I feel like it could be a lot cleaner."

Tiffany Yao, moved from San Jose, CA to Philadelphia in June 2008. When asked what she likes most about Philly she said, "The food, everything here is good and affordable." However, she least likes the fact that Philadelphia is a city stricken with crime. "I have to worry about safety here."

Megan Logue has lived in Philadelphia for six months after moving from Oxford, PA. She likes most that "there is all different stuff going on in Philadelphia," however she likes least that "the crowds at bars and concerts get on my nerves."

Allison Detloff, who currently lives in Washington D.C., came to visit friends in Philadelphia for a day on February 1. "I love the architecture," Detloff responded when asked what she likes most about Philly. "I don't like the subway, it's poorly run."

Todd Gilland was visiting Philadelphia for the weekend from back home in Ontario, Canada. While he said "home is home," he said the artwork is much better in Philadelphia. "I love all of it...everywhere I go in the city I see beautiful paintings and murals." On the other hand Gilland state he hasn't "run into anything [he

Omer Tensai has lived in Philadelphia for 18 years of his life before moving from Ethopia. He loves that Philadelphia "is a laid back city...you can go to your job and then relax." What he likes least about Philadelph is that "although it is a very diverse city I still think it is very segregated."
Philadelphia Past and Present: Center City
Wow. I found this assignment much harder than I thought it would be. There is one thing rephotographing a photograph from last week let alone rephotographing one from 100+ years ago. Philadelphia looks completely different in so many ways. Doing this assignment — and comparing a picture I took to something from 1907 or whatever definitely showed me just that.
I found all of my old photographs from the Free Library of Philadelphia’s website in the “Center City” category.
